INDONESIA-ENVIRONMENT-MUD-ANNIVERSARY

In this picture taken on May 27, 2010 a man, whose home was submerged by the flow of mud from the Lapindo mud volcano in Porong, Sidoarjo district, on East Java, stands in the road next to makeshift shelters built on an abandoned highway where he and many others have lived for almost four years. Four years after it erupted from the well of a gas company linked to one of Indonesia's richest men, the mud volcano known as "Lusi" is still spewing its toxic sludge over Java's countryside. The mud -- a hot, bubbling, grey substance the consistency of wet concrete -- has already wiped out 12 villages, killed 13 people and displaced more than 42,000. AFP PHOTO / ADEK BERRY
