This handout picture of Austria's Osterreichische Nationalbibliothek shows shelves of books confiscated by the Nazis at the Austrian National Library in 1944. On June 1, 2010 Austria's national library (ONB) announced the compensation of 135 000 euros (165 223 usd) to victims of Nazi persecution. Some 52 403 books seized from Jewish family homes in 1938 when Austria was annexed to Nazi Germany have been restored, 35 000 of which have been returned to their original owners.
