US-OIL-ENVIRONMENT-POLLUTION-BP-CAP
This still image from a live BP video feed shows a cap (TOP-CENTER-LEFT) about to be placed over the fractured BP oil pipe (CENTER-COTTOM) on June 3, 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. BP chief Tony Hayward said June 3 the company would know in "the next 12 to 24 hours" whether its latest attempt to contain the gushing Gulf oil leak would work. At least 20 million gallons of oil are believed to have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico since an April 20 explosion tore through a BP-leased rig just off the Louisiana coast, making it the worst spill in US history.
