The command center, a 24 hour operation employing hundreds of workers, consists of BP employees, the United States Coast Guard and a variety of state and local agencies coordinating in the cleanup operation for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Following a meeting with President Obama yesterday, BP announced that they will finance a $20 billion fund to compensate individuals whose jobs and incomes have been affected by the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. BP also announced that they would forgo paying out their annual dividends to shareholders in order to finance the Gulf oil spill.
