GERMANY-DEFENCE-WWII-COMMEMORATION
German defence minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg walks across the courtyard back to his seat after speaking during a commemoration service for the 1944 attempt to assassinate German dictator Adolf Hitler by German officers at the defence ministry in Berlin, July 20, 2010. The July 20 plot saw aristocratic army officer Count Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg place a bomb at Hitler's headquarters in East Prussia, in present day Poland. Von Stauffenberg and several others were executed shortly afterwards in the courtyard of the Bendlerblock, still part of the defence ministry and the site of the memorial for von Stauffenberg, where the commemoration took place.
