US astronauts Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin deploy the US flag on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969 during the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. Armstrong, who turns 80 on August 5, 2010, became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969 before the eyes of hundreds of millions of television viewers worldwide, who gazed in awe.
