JAPAN-POLITICS-HISTORY-WWII
People release white doves in the air during a ceremony at the controversial Yasukuni war shrine in Tokyo on August 15, 2010 to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II. Japan commemorated the 65th anniversary of its surrender in World War II without any ministerial visits to the controversial Tokyo war shrine for the first time in decades. The Yasukuni shrine is a place dedicated to 2.5 million people killed as a result of the conflict, including 14 of Japan's top war criminals. AFP PHOTO/Kazuhiro NOGI
