FILES-INDONESIA-US-ENVIRONMENT-COMPANY-SINARMAS-BURGERKING
(FILES) This file aerial photograph taken during an aerial survey organized by Greenpeace on July 5, 2010 shows an excavator cutting through a peat land forest while constructing canals at the vast palm oil plantations of Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology (SMART), part of the Sinar Mas group, in Ketapang district in West Kalimantan province on Borneo island. US fast food giant Burger King said September 2, 2010 it would no longer buy palm oil from Indonesian group Sinar Mas or its subsidiaries after Greenpeace campaigned against its land-clearing practices. Indonesia is the biggest producer of palm oil which is used in everything from biscuits to cosmetics, but environmentalists say plantations are driving deforestation blamed for habitat loss and the release of greenhouse gases.
