SRI LANKA-SWITZERLAND-UNREST-DEMINING
A Sri Lankan de-miner attached to the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action (FSD)operates a remote controlled de-mining machine in scrubland close to Mannar, some 220kms north of Colombo on September 6, 2010. Over a year since Sri Lankan troops crushed the Tamil Tigers ending 37-years of bloodshed, FSD estimates that tens of thousands of unexploded landmines lie scattered across the former battlefields in the north of the country posing a threat to villagers trying to rebuild their lives.
