CHILE-MINE-ACCIDENT

Two members of the mounted police watch the camp by the San Jose mine in Copiapo, 800 km north of Santiago on September 7, 2010, where 33 miners have been trapped for over a month. The mounted police prevents people to get into areas of risk. Drillers have already begun two approaches -- "Plan A" and "Plan B" -- with a quicker "Plan C" route scheduled to begin on September 18. The latter could reduce the rescue time to two months at best, having to only drill some 597 metres to reach the trapped workers. The two drills working on the rescue shafts to reach the men who have passed the one-month mark below ground, have already bored down 100 metres. AFP PHOTO/Ariel MARINKOVIC
