Cambodia's UN-backed tribunal on September 16, 2010 indicted four former Khmer Rouge leaders, Nuon Chea deputy to Khmer Rouge founder Pol Pot, former foreign minister Ieng Sary, his wife and ex-social affairs minister Ieng Thirith and former head of state Khieu Samphan, for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
