Indian workers mark the road leading to Jawarhal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on September 25, 2010, ahead of the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. Crisis-hit New Delhi has welcomed its first Commonwealth Games athletes as organisers raced against time to rescue the event amid claims the city should never have been chosen. The Commonwealth Games Federation signaled that conditions were finally improving, but that there was still work to do after the athletes' village was described as "uninhabitable" earlier in the week.
