MOROCCO-MEDIA-RIGHTS
The publisher of the bankrupt Moroccan Arab-language weekly Nichane, Ahmed Benshemsi, poses on May 10, 2010 in front of a poster of its French-language Telquel at publication headquarters in Casablanca. Benshemsi said on October 2 that the magazine was forced to close, blaming "the highest circles of power" for organising a boycott of advertisers. He said Nichane had been brought down because of its "editorial stance, its tone and the taboos that it managed to break". Paris-based media watchdog Reporters without Borders (RSF) said the boycott had been launched in August last year after Nichane, its French-language stablemate Telquel and France's prestigious Le Monde conducted an opinion poll on the monarchy.
