SINGAPORE-HISTORY-POMPEII
A marble statue of a woman stands on October 4, 2010 at the Singapore National Museum in front of a montage of the ruins of Pompeii, a Roman city wiped out by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 C.E. The statue, which may have adorned a grand tomb, is part of an exhibition opening on October 16 on daily life in the southern Italian city just before the disaster. Over 270 objects from exhibitor Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici di Napoli e Pompei (SANP), including jewels, frescoes, sculptures and household items, will be on display to reconstruct the ill-fated city.
