BELGIUM-DRCONGO-MILITARY-RIGHTS-DEMO
A demonstrator holds a placard showing Armand Tungulu during a protest against Democratic Republic of Congo's president Joseph Kabila near the US embassy in Brussels on October 9. The demonstrators were also demanding the return of the body of Tungulu to Brussels. Armand Tungulu , arrested for throwing a stone at President Joseph Kabila's convoy was found dead on October 2, 2010 in his republican guard cell and is held to have "committed suicide", a legal source said on October 4. "Preliminary investigations suggest" that Armand Tungulu, aged 30, "must have committed suicide on the night of October 1 to October 2 (...) with the help of a cloth he was using for a pillow," said a statement from the chief prosecutor's office of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Tungulu, who normally lives in Belgium and had been in Kinshasa for a short while, was arrested on Wednesday and "beaten up" by the president's bodyguards, after throwing a stone at the cortege in the city centre, according to the African Association for the Defence of Human Rights (Asadho).
