Head of the government committee dealing with flood damage, Gyorgy Bakondi (L) and Sandor Pinter, Hungary's interior minister make a statement for the press in Veszprem on October 13, 2010. Hungarian authorities said on October 13 the threat of another chemical spill had been averted and villagers could return home. The death toll from the October 4 spill, when a flood of toxic sludge from an alumina plant poured into villages and rivers, meanwhile rose to nine when one of elderly people wounded in the disaster died in hospital.
