In this image released by the US Defense Press Operations, Pentagone, October 31, 2010 shows file photo of Canadian Omar Khadr constructing IED (An improvised explosive device). Canadian extremist militant Omar Khadr, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison on October 31, 2010 but only faces eight years under a plea deal, is the last Westerner held at Guantanamo Bay. Born in Toronto to a family with strong ties to Al-Qaeda, Khadr celebrated his 24th birthday in his Guantanamo cell, after more than eight years in custody at the US naval base where 174 "war on terror" detainees remain. His Egyptian-born father, who Khadr reportedly said belonged to Osama bin Laden's inner circle, was killed in a shootout with Pakistani forces in October 2003. His sister Zaynab and brother Abdullah have been investigated for alleged ties to Al-Qaeda, and another brother, Abdurahman, has admitted that he and some of his siblings were trained by Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.
