MOZAMBIQUE-POLITICS-MEDIA-MURDER-ANNIVERSAY-CARDOSO
The son and the mother of slain Mozambican journalist Carlos Cardoso stand at the unveiled monument in his memory on the spot where he was gunned down ten years ago in the capital Maputo, on November 22, 2010. Cardoso was killed after exposing the theft of 14 million dollars (10 million euros) from state bank BCM on the eve of its privatisation four years earlier. Six people were convicted of the murder. Two of them, a prominent banker and a former BCM branch manager, were also among a group of seven convicted of defrauding the bank. Then-president Joaquim Chissano's son Nyimpine was charged with ordering Cardoso's killing, but died before the case came to trial. AFP PHOTO / BENOIT MARQUET
