The president of the European Film Academy, German film director Wim Wenders (R), applauds Swiss actor Bruno Ganz after the latter received the European Film Academy lifetime achievement award on December 4, 2010 at the 23rd European Film Awards, the continent's version of the Oscars, in Tallinn. The European Film Awards were launched in 1988 and spurred by top European directors, including Ingmar Bergman and Wenders.
