EU-RIGHTS-SAKHAROV-CUBA-FARINAS
An empty chair is dressed with a Cuban national flag on December 15, 2010 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg during a ceremony to award Cuban dissident Guillermo Farinas, in his absence, with the 2010 Sakharov prize, a top human rights prize. Farinas urged the EU to stand firm against Cuba's "cruel" regime, which barred him from travelling to France to receive the prize and declared "my biggest hopes is that you will not let yourselves be fooled by the siren song of a cruel regime of savage communism".
