TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY ANNIE HAUTEFEUILLE AND RICHARD INGHAM- (FILES) This handout image received from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) on March 26, 2008 shows an image of the Sun. With little warning, three big sunspots (L-R): 989, 988 and 987 have materialized. The coming year will be an important one for space weather as the Sun pulls out of a trough of low activity and heads into a long-awaited and possibly destructive period of turbulence.
