This picture taken on January 13, 2011 shws an exterior view of the Institute of Byzantine Studies in Bucharest. A large library was replenished with 15,000 titles from Athens and Rome, including rarities like "euchologue" a huge Ukrainian prayer book of 1646, engraved and hand-written, which exist only three copies the world. 63 years ago, 25,000 books on Eastern Christianity were narrowly saved, illegally transferred to France after the closure by the communists of the Institute of Byzantine Studies in Bucharest. Born in Jerusalem in the late nineteenth century, the Institute of Byzantine Studies settled in Istanbul before moving to Bucharest after the arrival of Ataturk's secular regime.AFP PHOTO / DANIEL MIHAILESCU
