German Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (CSU) gives a statement to announce his resignation on March 1, 2011 at his ministry in Berlin. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, stripped last month of his doctoral title after accusations of plagiarism, came under pressure to quit since the scandal broke. The suave 39-year-old aristocrat, who has been dubbed "Baron Cut-And-Paste" and "Zu Googleberg" by the media, is one of the most popular ministers in Chancellor Angela Merkel's government and his departure would be a blow to her.
