This handout photo taken on March 14, 2011 and received on March 19, 2011 by the US Air Force shows maintainers from the 374th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron talking to loadmasters and flight engineers from the 36th Airlift Squadron while starting up a C-130 Hercules at Yokota Air Base, in Fussa, Japan. C-130s play a crucial role in disaster-relief operations because of their ability to land on dirt runways and other less-than-ideal landing conditions. Admiral Robert Willard, who is overseeing US military assistance after Japan's earthquake and tsunami, on March 17, 2011 voiced cautious optimism that a meltdown at Japan's quake-hit nuclear plant could be averted and said the military stood ready to bolster its aid in the crisis.
