ARLINGTON, VA - MARCH 24: Charles Surabian (L) receives a U.S. flag from U.S. Army Chaplain Kelly O'Lear on behalf of his brother, Staff Sgt. Roy Surabian, who is one of 11 World War II airmen missing in action since 1943 that have been recently identified during their group burial ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery March 24, 2011 in Arlington, Virginia. On Nov. 20, 1943, the 11 B-24D Liberator crew members, took off from Jackson Airfield, Port Moresby, New Guinea, on an overwater mission near the northern coast of the country. During the mission, the only radio transmission from the crew indicated they were 20 miles northwest of Port Moresby but they did not return to Jackson Airfield. The plane's crash site was located in 1984 inside a ravine in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea, where U.S. scientists recovered remains. The crew buried as a group are: 1st Lt. Richard T. Heuss of Berkley, Michigan; 2nd Lt. Robert A. Miller of Memphis, Tennessee; 2nd Lt. Edward R. French of Erie, Pennsylvania; 2nd Lt. Robert R. Streckenbach, Jr. of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Tech. Sgt. Charles A. Bode; Tech. Sgt. Lucian I. Oliver, Jr. of Memphis, Tennessee; Staff Sgt. Ivan O. Kirkpatrick of Whittier, California; Staff Sgt. William K. Musgrave of Hutsonville, Illinois; Staff Sgt. James T. Moran of Sloatsburg, New York; Staff Sgt. James B. Moore of Woburn, Massachusetts; and Staff Sgt. Roy Surabian of Medford, Massachusetts.
