Handout picture released by the Peruvian Presidency press service showing archaeologists and technicians of the Ministry of Culture inspecting bones and artifacts of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and returned by Yale University almost a century after they where shipped to the US by archaeologist Hiram Bingham. Peru on Wednesday gave a grandiose welcome to several hundred artifacts returned by Yale following lawsuits and personal lobbying by Peruvian President Alan Garcia and his US counterpart Barack Obama. Garcia led an intensive media and diplomatic campaign to bring the objects back in time for celebrations, planned in July, for the "Western discovery" of Machu Picchu by Bingham, who is famed for coming upon Machu Picchu in July 1911 and bringing it to international renown.
