RUSSIA-POLAND-ACCIDENT-AIR
This picture taken on April 10, 2011 shows a memorial stone with a plaque, which reads in both languages Russian and Polish "To the memory of 96 Poles headed by Polish Republic President Lech Kaczynski, who died in the air disaster near Smolensk on April 10, 2010." at the site of a plane crash near Smolensk on April 10, 2011. Russia stoked the flames of a new diplomatic flare-up with Poland by defending its switch of a plaque marking the death in a plane crash of the country's president one year ago. The original version of the commemorative sign noted that Lech Kaczynski and 95 other crash victims had been travelling to Katyn to mark the 70th anniversary of the murder of 22,000 Polish officers by Soviet secret police.
