RUSSIA-SPACE-POLITICS-FILES
(FILES) A picture taken on August 11, 2007, shows Russia’s Space Troops Commander Colonel General Vladimir Popovkin (L) and Vladimir Putin, then Russian President, as they visit the new-generation radar station Voronezh in the Leningrad Region. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on April 29, 2011 fired the Russian space agency chief Anatoly Perminov after a series of high-profile setbacks cast a shadow on the 50th anniversary year of Yuri Gagarin's first space flight. Perminov will be replaced as head of Roskosmos by Vladimir Popovkin, the government said in a statement, quoting an order signed by Putin. AFP PHOTO/ RIA-NOVOSTI/ KREMLIN POOL/ DMITRY ASTAKHOV
