PIERRE PART, LA - MAY 17: An old paddlewheel boat is seen along the Belle River May 17, 2011 in Pierre Part, Louisiana. The Morganza Spillway floodgates were opened for the first time in nearly forty years and have succussfully lowered the crest of the flooding Mississippi River with water being redirected into the Atchafalaya Basin. Residents in Pierre Part are filling sandbags and constructing makeshift levees in preparation for the incoming floodwaters. Heavy rains have left the ground saturated, rivers swollen, and have caused widespread flooding in Louisiana. Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
