The oil industry is closely monitoring the flooding amid concerns that oil refineries in the region could be impacted by floodwaters. The Morganza Spillway floodgates were opened for the first time in nearly forty years to lower the crest of the flooding Mississippi River as it is partially diverted into the Atchafalaya Basin.
