SWITZERLAND-NUCLEAR-ENERGY

Swiss Minister of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, Doris Leuthard gestures as she speaks during a press conference on May 25, 2011 in Bern. The Swiss government recommended to parliament that the country's nuclear power plants should not be replaced as they age, leaving them to be phased out by around 2034. After the March 11 quake and tsunami in Japan triggered the world's worst nuclear disaster since Chernobyl 25 years ago at Fukishima, Switzerland was the first country to announce that it had suspended plans to replace its ageing nuclear power plants.
