Sears is considering moving its 2.4 million square feet corporate headquarters and the 6,200 employees that work there out of the state of Illinois after the state increased the corporate tax rate from 4.8 to 7 percent in January. Sears Holding Corp. is the parent company of retail giants Sears and Kmart. Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar and the CME Group which own the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade have also raised the possibility of moving out of Illinois following the tax increase.
