BOSNIA-WARCRIMES-MLADIC
People gather in Sarajevo on July 4, 2011 with Bosnia's wartime flags to watch a live television broadcast of former Bosnian Serb Army chief Ratko Mladic's appearance before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. The gathering at the Sarajevo Children Square in the center of the Bosnian capital was organized by wartime victims' associations. During the 1992-1995 Sarajevo siege some 10,000 civilians, of whom 1,500 children, were killed in constant shelling and sniper fire by Bosnian Serb forces, led by Mladic. Mladic was on July 4 removed from a UN Yugoslav war crimes courtroom after refusing to enter a plea and continously disrupting proceedings before judges. He is accused of 11 charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, stemming from the 1992-95 Bosnian war. AFP PHOTO / ELVIS BARUKCIC
