European Commission Vice President in charge of competition policy Joaquin Almunia gives a press conference on state aid at EU headquarters in Brussels on July 18, 2011. The European Commission on Monday approved a gigantic restructuring aid package to help German banking group Hypo Real Estate. The authorised plan consists of capital injections of € 10 billion, an asset relief measure with an aid element of about € 20 billion, as well as liquidity guarantees amounting to €145 billion.
