BASKET-NBA-ROCKETS-YAO-CHN-FILES
(FILES) This file photo taken on June 5, 2007 shows a boy walking past a billboard showing Chinese basketball star Yao Ming in a campaign to raise awareness on wildlife preservation, part of his campaign to urge Asians to stop consuming shark's fin soup. Basketball star Yao Ming announced his retirement on July 20, 2011 after a trail-blazing career that made him China's best-known athlete abroad and helped spur the game's global growth. Yao was China's first global sports super star with a personal brand valued at more than one billion USD. The eight-time NBA all-star routinely tops Forbes' list of China's most valuable celebrities and his international appeal has led to endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, McDonald's and China Telecom.
