CHILE-MINING-COPPER-STRIKE
Miners protest as they hold a strike in Antofagasta, some 1000 Km north of Santiago, on July 25, 2011. Miners at the world's largest copper mine Escondida, have asked the government to mediate as a strike largely over bonus pay went into its fourth day on Monday. The operators of the mine, 57.7 percent controlled by Anglo-Australian BHB Billiton, says the strike is illegal because it is not occurring in a collective bargaining framework. Workers want a bonus of $11,000 linked to the company's earnings. The company has offered $6,000. The poster reads "The Miners United Will Never Be Defeated". AFP PHOTO/FRANCESCO DEGASPERI
