Maalouf, 62, elected in June 23, 2011 at the French Academy (official authority on the French language), published several novels that focus on the themes of Arab religious and national identity, in addition to journalism, essays and a work of history, and won France's premier literary award, the Prix Goncourt, in 1993 for his book "The Rock of Tanios".
