A combo image made available by the European Space Agency (ESA) on August 9, 2011 and captured by Envisat’s Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar on March 12, and March 16, 2011 showing near the Sulzberger ice shelf the newly formed icebergs that can clearly be seen in the second image (R). The tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 propagated waves that hit the Sulzberger ice shelf in Antarctica 13,000 kilometres (8,100 miles) away, smashing parts of it into huge icebergs, the European Space Agency (ESA) said today.
