Schumann of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, is presented with the flag that was covering his casket by Acting Commanding General of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Maj. Gen. Merdith Temple (R) August 9, 2011 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Specialist Schumann, who was assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, died July 5 in Paktia province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
