Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Spirit mission manager for surface operations Jennifer Trosper (R) uses a model of the Spirit rover to describe the deployment of Spirit on the surface of Mars, during a news conference at NASA -s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, 03 January, 2004. The golf cart-sized Mars Rover Spirit is scheduled to land on the Martian surface later today and will roam the Red Planet-s rocky surface in search of geologic evidence that Mars was once suitable for life.
