US-ANIMAL-ATTCACK-FACE TRANSPLANT
This combination of images released August 11, 2011 by the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston, Massachusettes shows chimpanzee attack victim Charla Nash (L) prior to the attack, after the injuries (C) and after the full face transplant (R). Nash is the Connecticut woman who was mauled by a chimpanzee in 2009. The procedure was performed late last month by a team of plastic and orthopedic surgeons led by Dr. Bohdan Pomahac. A double hand transplant was also performed, however the hands failed to thrive and were removed.
