Dr. Steven Squyres (L) for the Mars Rover mission and Jennifer Trosper, Spirit Mission manager for surface operations, speak at a press conference in front of one of the first images f the Mars Exploration Rover spacecraft on the surface of Mars after it landed successfully 03 January, 2004. The mission is controlled by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The rover will explore the surface of the planet.
