BELGIUM-JAPAN-ANIMAL-THEFT-OFFBEAT
TO GO WITH A STORY by Roddy Thomson
A picture taken on August 17, 2011 shows a woman feeding a Koi carp in a pond of a breeding farm near Gent. Police in Belgium admit they are clueless as they hunt thieves traumatising prized Japanese koi carp -- cute "Finding-Nemo" type fish that sell for many thousands of euros yet are practically un-insurable. Champion Flemish growers with long and painful experience as victims fear ever-more costly security to protect these creatures beloved by wealthy Japanese or Asia lovers that, left in peace, can live to 60 and eat their way to the size of a small pig.
