THAILAND-SOUTH-UNREST
Thai soldiers and policemen stand guard at the site of a roadside bomb attack which killed five Rangers in Thailand's restive southern province of Pattani on September 15, 2011. Members of the 44th Ranger Forces team were travelling on a rural road when their vehicle was hit by an explosion which killed five and seriously injured another. Around 4,800 people have been killed in near-daily attacks since shadowy rebels launched an uprising in early 2004, according to the latest figures from Deep South Watch, an independent research group that monitors the conflict.
