KENYA-CLIMATE-MAATHAI
Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya Per Ludrig Magnus signs a condolence book on September 27, 2011 for Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai at the Green Belt offices in Nairobi. Maathai, who became the first African woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, died at Nairobi Hospital while undergoing treatment for cancer at the age of 71. Maathai became a key figure in Kenya since founding the Green Belt Movement in 1977, staunchly campaigning for environmental conservation and good governance. Her organisation has planted some 40 million trees across Africa. AFP PHOTO / SIMON MAINA
