MOROCCO-ABORTION-GOVERNMENT
Pregnant Mahjouba holds one of her five children in the slum of Souk El Kelb near Sale on October 11, 2011. Morocco's government is weighing changes to the country's abortion laws so that pregnancies can be legally terminated in extreme cases, including rape and incest, social and family development minister Nouzha Skalli said on October 14, 2011. Abortion is currently illegal in the north African kingdom, except when the mother's health is in jeopardy. Between 600 and 800 abortions are performed each day in Morocco by medical professionals, while an additional 200 are carried out without proper medical precautions taken, according to rights groups.
