SPAIN-BASQUE-LOKARRI-ETA-PEACE
(From L) Jonathan Powell, former Chief of Staff of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams, Irish former prime minister Bertie Ahern, former UN Secretary general Kofi Annan, Norway's former prime minister Gro Harlem Brutland and France's former Interior Minister Pierre Joxe pose after reading their declaration following the conference to promote a eesolution in the Basque Country, on October 17, 2011, in the northern Spanish Basque city of San Sebastian. International negotiators including former Irish premier Bertie Ahern called on armed Basque group ETA to declare a definitive end to violence. Negotiators pressed Spain and France to greet such a move by starting talks to deal exclusively with the consequences of the conflict, which has lasted more than four decades and claimed 829 lives.
