The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam said on October 17, 2011 that a claim by two US authors that van Gogh may not have taken his own life is "interesting", but it was premature to discard the long-held suicide theory. In a new biography of the Dutch-born painter, Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith detail forensic evidence they say proves van Gogh was killed by two brothers at a farm in Auvers-sur-Oise in France.
