Afghan security forces gather at the site of a suicide bomb attack in Kandahar on October 31, 2011. Suicide attackers on October 31 blew up a truck bomb and raided the offices of a US charity, killing four Afghans in the second attack in recent days on American interests in the city of Kandahar. One attacker detonated the vehicle outside the offices of US-based International Relief and Development (IRD), before two others entered the compound and fired on security forces, said police and government officials. The volatile southern city is the birthplace of the Taliban movement, which has been waging bloody battle for a return to power since it was ousted by the US-led invasion in late 2001 following the 9/11 attacks.
