Greece Prime Minister George Papandreou has said that a referendum on the European debt crisis deal for his country could be held as early as December 4 or 5, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said on November 2. The Greek leader said the popular vote could be held in a month's time after EU leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Papandreou during an emergency meeting that the referendum has to be held "as soon as possible."
